On the night of February 17, 2020, a violent incident occurred at a popular off-campus gathering spot known as "The Ark," located approximately 13 miles north of Alcorn State University in Claiborne County, Mississippi. During a bonfire event at the venue near Highway 61, gunfire erupted, striking four individuals. Among the victims was James Carr, a 22-year-old Black male student from Itta Bena, Mississippi, who sustained critical injuries during the chaos.
