In the early morning hours of February 19, 2020, a tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, claiming the life of 32-year-old Christina Deloris Davis. A female employee of the hospital, Davis was arriving for her shift when she was confronted by her boyfriend. The encounter quickly escalated into a violent assault.
A hospital security guard, 64-year-old Browning Luckett Jr., witnessed the altercation and bravely attempted to intervene. In response, the assailant produced a firearm and fatally shot both Davis and Luckett. The gunman then fled the scene, taking Davis's vehicle.
A short time later, law enforcement located the stolen vehicle near a cemetery in the neighboring city of Pearl. Witnesses in the area reported seeing a man walk into the cemetery, followed by the sound of a gunshot. Police discovered the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation that followed confirmed the incident was a tragic case of domestic violence. No arrests were made as the sole suspect in the double murder-suicide was deceased.
