In the late summer of 2020, the life of 30-year-old Jennifer Ann Ray was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. On August 26th, she was found deceased outside a motel room at the inTown Suites in the northern part of the city. An investigation revealed that Ray, a female, had been fatally shot. Remembered by loved ones as goofy, sweet, and bubbly, her sudden death left family and friends mourning and seeking justice.
In the course of their investigation, law enforcement identified Antonio Ames, who had shared the motel room with Ray, as a suspect in her murder. A significant piece of evidence in the case came from the discovery of shell casings at the scene, which linked the shooting to another incident that had occurred just two days prior at the Seagull Hotel. Following the crime, Ames fled the state and was later apprehended in Louisiana in 2020.
After years of legal proceedings, a Hinds County jury found Antonio Ames guilty of the first-degree murder of Jennifer Ann Ray. The conviction, which came in November of 2025, also included a charge for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Following the verdict, Ames faced a mandatory sentence of life in prison for the murder, with additional time to be served for the gun charge, bringing a measure of closure to a case that had been unresolved for over five years.
