In a tragic turn of events on September 16, 2018, in Jackson, Mississippi, 26-year-old Kyisha Wofford was found shot to death in her home. Responding to a call about a possible hostage situation, police discovered a horrific scene where two other family members had also been killed. Kyisha, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death, was a female victim in what would become a triple homicide investigation.
Upon their arrival at the residence on Marwood Drive, law enforcement officers encountered Kyisha's brother, Maurice Forte, then 22 years old, sitting in a wheelchair in the front yard with a pistol beside him. Forte admitted to the officers that he had shot someone inside the house. Inside, police found the bodies of Kyisha, her 49-year-old mother, Miyuki Wofford, and their 69-year-old grandmother, Eddie Mae Wofford. All three women had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Maurice Forte was taken into custody and subsequently charged with three counts of murder. Following the investigation, it was revealed that Kyisha was pregnant, leading to an additional charge against her brother. The motive for the devastating act of violence that claimed the lives of three generations of the same family has not been publicly disclosed.
In May 2024, the Hinds County District Attorney's office announced the successful prosecution of Maurice Forte. He was convicted on four counts of capital murder. For each count, Forte was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, ensuring he will spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for the deaths of his sister, his unborn nephew or niece, his mother, and his grandmother.
