In the spring of 2021, the life of Teshundra Jalesia Fortune, a 33-year-old Black/African American woman and mother of four, was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. On March 17th of that year, her body was discovered inside an abandoned apartment on Silas Brown Street. The cause of her death was a fatal gunshot wound, a violent end to a life that was cherished by her family and friends.
Known affectionately as 'Shun' or 'Blue Belle,' Teshundra was remembered as a caring and compassionate person who enjoyed reading her bible, listening to music, and spending time with her loved ones.
The investigation into her death moved swiftly, and within a couple of days, the Jackson Police Department had two suspects in custody. The arrests brought a shocking revelation to the community, as the individuals charged were two teenagers, a 15-year-old named Jacob Terrell and a 13-year-old named Dennis Williams. The circumstances of Teshundra's death were determined to have occurred during a burglary, adding another layer of tragedy to the senseless act of violence.
The legal process that followed saw Jacob Terrell facing serious charges, including second-degree murder and armed robbery. He was also connected to a separate aggravated assault that had taken place around the same time. Terrell was ultimately sentenced to serve 35 years in prison for the charge of second-degree murder, with an additional 20-year sentence for aggravated assault to be served concurrently.
