On September 5, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, involving 92-year-old patient Loyce Ivey and her husband, 95-year-old Cecil Ivey. Around 2:00 a.m., while visiting his wife, Mr. Ivey allegedly shot her before moving to another room and taking his own life. Mrs. Ivey was immediately transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment but, despite medical efforts, succumbed to her injuries later that day.
