In the quiet early morning hours at a Jackson, Mississippi hospital, a tragedy unfolded, ending the long life of 92-year-old Loyce Ivey. A patient at Baptist Medical Center, her life was cut short in what police have described as a murder-suicide.
On September 5, 2023, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Loyce Ivey was shot in her hospital room. The person responsible was her 95-year-old husband, Cecil Ivey. After shooting his wife, Cecil Ivey then moved to another room within the hospital and took his own life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initially, Loyce Ivey was listed in critical but stable condition following the shooting. However, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away the following day, on September 6, 2023. The incident shocked the hospital staff and the community, prompting the hospital to increase its security presence and offer support to its staff.
