On June 1, 2021, just hours after proudly walking across the stage to receive her high school diploma from Murrah High School in Jackson, Mississippi, Hobbs was shot and killed. The promising young entrepreneur, who had already started her own waxing business, was gunned down at a Texaco gas station on Medgar Evers Boulevard in what would become a devastating punctuation to a day of achievement.
The hours leading up to her death were a mix of celebration and poignant remembrance. After her graduation ceremony, Hobbs spent time with family and friends and visited the grave of her boyfriend, Jaquan Williams, who had himself been fatally shot just two months prior. It was later that evening, while on her way to a graduation party, that she stopped at the gas station.
