In a tragic and senseless act of violence, 40-year-old Wendell Knowles, a White/Caucasian male, lost his life over a dispute amounting to just five dollars. The fatal encounter occurred on April 2, 2022, on Englewood Street in Jackson, Mississippi. On that day, Knowles was confronted by a man who demanded money from him. The situation quickly escalated, and Knowles was shot once in the chest, succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
The Jackson Police Department launched an investigation
into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify 22-year-old Jaquanus Harvey McGee, also known as 'Kodak,' as the primary suspect in the robbery and homicide. Within days of the incident, on April 6, 2022, authorities located and arrested McGee, charging him with murder. He was subsequently booked into the City Holding Facility to await his initial court appearance.
Ultimately, the man responsible for Knowles's death was brought to justice. Jaquantis McGee, then 24, pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. The court sentenced him to serve 34 years in prison. However, 12 years of the sentence were suspended. McGee will serve the remaining 22 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections without the eligibility for parole or early release, closing the legal chapter on a case that began with a demand for a mere five dollars.
