In the winter of 2021, the life of 23-year-old Darrius Damarquell Reginal was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. On the evening of January 27th, a burst of gunfire erupted at the intersection of State Street and Northside Drive, leaving Reginal with fatal injuries. The events leading to the fatal shooting involved another individual, a female companion who was with
Reginal at the time. She too was struck by the gunfire but survived her injuries. The incident was not a random act of violence; investigators quickly began to piece together a narrative that pointed to a targeted attack. Their efforts led them to identify two primary suspects in the case.
Within a few weeks of the shooting, the Jackson Police Department announced the arrests of two men, Markell Felder and Trevonte 'Sparky' Freeman. Both men were subsequently charged with one count of murder for their alleged roles in the death of Darrius Reginal. Additionally, they faced a charge of aggravated assault in connection with the injuries sustained by Reginal's female companion.
