In the spring of 2015, a quiet street in Jackson, Mississippi, became the scene of a tragedy that cut short the life of a 73-year-old man, Alfredo Ramirez. On the evening of April 11th, what began as a routine stop at a gas station turned into a fatal encounter for Ramirez, a male member of the community. Unbeknownst to him, he was being watched. After leaving the gas station, he was followed.
The pursuit ended in a violent confrontation on St. Francis Street, where the perpetrator's intentions became brutally clear. Ramirez was robbed and then, in a senseless act of violence, shot multiple times. Officers from the Jackson Police Department's Precinct 2 were called to the scene, where they found Ramirez gravely wounded. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but the severity of his injuries was too great, and he succumbed to them shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the homicide began immediately. Detectives determined that the assailant had fled the scene in what was described as an early 2000s model silver or gold Honda Accord. The Jackson Police Department released a description of the suspect, identifying him as a tall, dark-skinned Black male with a distinctive flat top haircut and a noticeable goatee. At the time, he was believed to be wearing a white t-shirt and dark-colored pants.
In the days following the murder, the police department issued a public appeal for assistance in identifying both the suspect and the vehicle involved in the crime. They cautioned that the individual responsible should be considered armed and dangerous. Despite these efforts and the initial leads in the investigation, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the murder of Alfredo Ramirez. The case, like many others in the city, has faded from the headlines, leaving a resolution unknown.
