In the early hours of the morning after Thanksgiving in 2022, a heated argument at a home on Abbott Street in Natchez, Mississippi, ended in tragedy. Sarah Thomas, a 53-year-old female, was shot in the head. The person responsible for firing the single, fatal shot was her own daughter, 36-year-old Shalece Thomas.

The argument between mother and daughter had escalated, leading to the violent confrontation at approximately 2 a.m. After the shooting, Sarah Thomas was rushed to a Jackson hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injury and was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m. the following day.

Natchez Police quickly responded to the scene and detained Shalece Thomas. She was initially arrested on an aggravated assault charge, although those charges were expected to be upgraded following her mother's death. The investigation also revealed that Shalece was a wanted person, with an outstanding felony warrant for second-degree murder in Texas.

Ultimately, Shalece Thomas pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter for the death of her mother. In June 2024, a judge sentenced her to serve 20 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the crime. At the time of the fatal shooting, Shalece was also wanted in Dallas County, Texas, on drug-related charges.
