In the early morning hours of April 29, 2018, the life of 27-year-old Luquitia Renee Owens was tragically cut short in Natchez, Mississippi. An altercation involving two other women outside the Rockefeller's nightclub, in an area known as 'the triangle' near Catherine Street, escalated with fatal consequences. During the physical dispute, one of the women, identified as 24-year-old Monique Noble, reportedly used a firearm.
Noble struck Owens twice with the gun, and during the assault, the weapon discharged. A single gunshot wound to the neck proved fatal for Owens. She was discovered on the sidewalk and rushed to Merit Health, where she was pronounced dead. The Black/African American woman's death left the community in mourning. Her funeral services were later held at Antioch Baptist Church, followed by a burial at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery.
In the aftermath of the incident, law enforcement launched an investigation that quickly led to a suspect. Monique Noble was arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with Luquitia Renee Owens' death. Another individual, 28-year-old Caleb Walton Jr., was also found to be in possession of a firearm at the scene. However, authorities investigated his involvement and determined that he was not connected to the homicide. Noble's bond was set at $500,000 as the legal proceedings against her commenced.
