On the evening of February 23, 2020, Cathy Prescott, a 62-year-old Caucasian female, and her husband, George Prescott, were found shot to death in their Natchez, Mississippi, home on North Hampton Road. The tragic discovery set off a search for their son and his infant daughter.
Authorities identified the couple's son, Colton Prescott, as the primary suspect. Investigators believe that Colton had gone to his parents' residence to pick up his 9-month-old daughter. An argument broke out, which tragically escalated to the fatal shooting of both Cathy and George Prescott. After the incident, Colton fled the scene with the baby, prompting a brief but intense search. He was located and arrested without incident later that same night in southern Adams County, about 15 miles from his parents' home. The baby was found unharmed and was safely returned to her mother.
Friends and family suggested that Colton's life had been on a downward spiral for some time. They pointed to his struggles with illicit drug use and the profound impact of a family tragedy in 2016, when his 3-year-old son died in an ATV accident, as contributing factors to his deteriorating state. During his arrest, Colton reportedly exhibited erratic behavior, even claiming to be Jesus Christ.
In September 2022, Colton Prescott pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of his parents. A judge subsequently sentenced him to 60 years in prison, with the 30-year sentences for each count to be served consecutively.
