In the spring of 1984, Oleta June Gregory Lamb, a 34-year-old woman from Midwest City, Oklahoma, was trying to pull her life into a new shape after years of turmoil at home. Friends and relatives would later tell courts that she had been beaten and threatened more than once by her husband, James Warren Lamb, and that she had begun to voice real fear that he might someday kill her.
