On a Sunday in late November of 2017, the life of 20-year-old Dejuan Matthew Shaw-Hudson, a Black/African American male from Oklahoma City, was cut short. His body was discovered in the driver's seat of a vehicle at ESA Park in Midwest City. The events that led to his tragic death unfolded over what police determined was a drug deal that went awry.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to Shakevia Laprecious Jones, who was also 20 at the time.
According to law enforcement, Jones had arranged to meet Shaw-Hudson at the park to purchase drugs. She arrived in a dark-colored Dodge Charger, a detail that witnesses later recalled, aiding in her swift identification and apprehension.
During the transaction, Jones claimed she believed Shaw-Hudson was about to draw a firearm on her. In what she described as a reaction to this perceived threat, she shot him with a Glock 40. Immediately following the shooting, she passed the weapon to an unknown individual and fled the scene in her vehicle.
Law enforcement located and arrested Jones while she was driving the Dodge Charger seen leaving the park. She was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. In February of 2019, Jones entered a guilty plea to the charge. A judge sentenced her to a term of 25 years in prison, to be followed by 15 years of probation for her role in the death of Dejuan Matthew Shaw-Hudson.
