Dustin Voss was a 43-year-old roofer known to loved ones as a protective, loyal, and hardworking man who was always willing to help anyone. Remembered as a soft-spoken daredevil who could fix anything, the White man was described as loving and accepting. His life was cut short in the autumn of 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, November 7, 2020, police responded to a call at about 3:40 a.m. concerning a body found at the St.
Anthony Healthplex in the southeastern part of the city. Officers arrived at the hospital, located near Interstate 40 and Douglas Boulevard, and discovered Dustin Voss in the parking lot. Investigators noted that his body had trauma consistent with signs of homicide. It was later reported that he had died from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The investigation led police to a home in Nicoma Park where Dustin had been living. According to a coworker, Dustin had recently started "hanging around some pretty shady people." Detectives learned that two men, Ronnie Lynn Asbury and Jeremiah Kirkpatrick, were living with Dustin at the home. Dustin’s landlord, who was also his employer, had instructed him to have the two men move out immediately. Police stated that just hours after Dustin told his housemates they had to leave, his body was discovered at the hospital.
Two weeks later, authorities arrested Ronnie Lynn Asbury, 23, and Jeremiah Kirkpatrick, 41, in connection with Dustin's death. They were booked into jail on complaints of second-degree murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. According to arrest warrants, witnesses close to the suspects told investigators that Asbury and Kirkpatrick claimed there had been a fight over a gun and that Dustin was accidentally shot. The gun used in the shooting was reportedly stolen in a burglary.
