In the spring of 2021, a life full of promise was tragically cut short in Oklahoma City. Victor Hugo Reyes, an 18-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally wounded on the evening of April 18th. The incident that led to his untimely death began with a verbal altercation, a disagreement that escalated with devastating consequences. The dispute culminated in a shooting that left Reyes gravely injured.
Following the shooting, which occurred at 3644 S.W.
22nd Street, Reyes was transported in a personal vehicle to the vicinity of SW 32nd and Miller. From there, emergency medical services were able to take him to a local hospital. Despite the efforts to save him, Victor Hugo Reyes was pronounced deceased, succumbing to the gunshot wound he had sustained. His death marked the 24th homicide in Oklahoma City for that year.
The investigation into the death of Victor Reyes moved swiftly. Eyewitness accounts provided crucial information to the Violent Crimes Apprehension Team, leading them to a suspect. The following day, authorities located the suspect's vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 2700 block of S.W. 31st Street. A 15-year-old male, Gabriel De La Rosa, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. De La Rosa was subsequently booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a complaint of first-degree murder. While an arrest was made, the investigation remained ongoing as authorities continued to gather information about the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.
