In the early morning hours of November 1, 2015, Devin Dale Fuller, a 24-year-old Black male and an Army veteran, was shot and killed in Oklahoma City. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue as Fuller was picking up a friend outside a bar. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Fuller had served nine months in Afghanistan and was reportedly on the verge of being promoted to sergeant.
Witnesses at the scene reported that an unidentified man fired multiple shots before leaving the area. The investigation into Fuller's death led Oklahoma City police to identify 22-year-old Deshawn Colbert as a suspect. A significant piece of evidence in the case was a photograph provided by a witness, which was taken at the club on the night of the shooting and showed Colbert.
On November 19, 2015, Deshawn Colbert was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in the death of Devin Fuller. At the time of his arrest for the murder, Colbert was also facing two separate drug charges from earlier in the year. Fuller's death was recorded as the 75th homicide in Oklahoma City for that year.
