In the winter of 2019, the life of 15-year-old Roshawna Stevens was tragically cut short in a brutal act of violence that also claimed the lives of her mother and her mother's fiancé. On January 7, family members, unable to make contact with them, requested a welfare check at their Oklahoma City home. Responding officers made a grim discovery, finding Roshawna, her mother, Carnesha Patrice Powell, 35, and Elijah Mothershed, 44, all deceased from gunshot wounds inside the residence on Northeast
10th Street and Standish Avenue.
Investigators determined that all three victims had been executed. Mothershed was found near the door, having been shot in the temple, suggesting he may have opened the door for their assailant as there were no signs of forced entry. Roshawna and her mother were shot as they attempted to flee. Roshawna sustained wounds to her forehead and shoulder. The scene was absent of any signs of a struggle or robbery, leaving the motive behind the killings a mystery.
In the years that have followed the triple homicide, the case has grown cold. Despite pleas from family and community leaders for anyone with information to come forward, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains ongoing as those who knew and loved Roshawna, her mother, and her mother's fiancé continue to seek justice for their untimely deaths.
