On September 9, 2019, the life of 33-year-old Caleea Broadus, a female Black / African American U.S. Army veteran and corporal with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, was tragically cut short in a violent act of domestic violence in Northwest Oklahoma City. That afternoon, following an altercation with her husband, Quentin Broadus, Caleea was shot and killed by him in front of their home. A witness promptly called 911, but Caleea succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
The incident tragically unfolded at their residence where three children were present inside, though they did not witness the shooting itself.
Immediately following the shooting, Quentin Broadus fled the scene in a vehicle, initiating a police chase that lasted for approximately 20 minutes and spanned about three miles. The pursuit came to a dramatic and fatal conclusion when Quentin exited his still-moving vehicle and aimed a handgun at the pursuing officers. In response to the threat, six Oklahoma City police officers fired their weapons, striking him. Quentin Broadus was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
The investigation into Caleea Broadus's death identified her husband, Quentin Broadus, as the sole perpetrator. As he was killed in the subsequent officer-involved shooting, no arrests were made in connection with her murder. The case was classified as a domestic homicide. Caleea was remembered by her colleagues at the Oklahoma City Community Corrections Center as a dedicated and loyal team member with a bright future, who was always willing to volunteer and had a beautiful smile. Her death was a profound loss to her family, friends, and the community she served.
