Initially, Kinney Glasson portrayed himself as a grieving husband, detailing how a supposed intruder had hit his arm, causing him to inadvertently pull the trigger. He claimed the unidentified assailant fled after the fatal shot was fired. However, investigators found no evidence to support his story of a home invasion. There were no signs of forced entry, and a thorough forensic examination of the scene yielded no DNA from an unknown individual. This lack of evidence led detectives to question the veracity of Kinney Glasson's claims and to explore other possible motives for the shooting.
The facade of a tragic accident began to crumble when police uncovered Kinney Glasson's secret life. He was involved in an affair with another woman who, at the time of Erin's death, was in jail. This woman informed investigators that Kinney had promised her they would have a future together once his divorce was finalized. The investigation revealed that he had killed his wife to be with his girlfriend. A few days after Erin’s death, Kinney Glasson was arrested. In February 2017, he was found guilty of the murder of his wife, bringing a somber conclusion to a case that began with a fabricated tale of a home invasion.
