In the summer of 2017, the life of 30-year-old Ashley Easton, a white female from Yukon, Oklahoma, was tragically cut short in a brutal act of violence. A mother of three, Easton was described by her family as fun-loving and deeply devoted to her children.
On July 11, 2017, her body was discovered by a passerby in a ditch in the 8000 block of North Air Depot in Oklahoma City.
She had sustained significant trauma, and the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner later confirmed that she had died from gunshot wounds to the neck and head. The discovery of her body came just a day after a grim finding nearby. On July 10, the charred remains of her 27-year-old boyfriend, Bashar Burks, were found inside a burning vehicle at Wilshire and Air Depot. Investigators quickly determined that the two homicides were connected.
The investigation into the double homicide revealed a chilling sequence of events. Ashley Easton and Bashar Burks had given a ride to 27-year-old Mario James Normore, a known gang member with whom Burks had a work connection. An argument broke out between Normore and Burks during the car ride, which tragically escalated. Normore shot and killed Burks before turning the gun on Easton, shooting her in the neck and head. He then set the vehicle on fire with Burks' body inside and left Easton's body in a nearby ditch.
In the course of their investigation, authorities linked Normore to two other murders. He was subsequently arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Ashley Easton, Bashar Burks, Serra Howe, and James Knowles. In March 2023, to avoid the death penalty, Mario Normore pleaded guilty to all four murder charges. He received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, bringing a legal conclusion to a case that left a family and community mourning the senseless loss of Ashley Easton.
