On an April evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of 26-year-old Cameron Wilson was tragically cut short. The date was April 22, 2020, when gunshots echoed at 8201 E. Skelly Drive. When Tulsa Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they found Cameron Wilson deceased. Another man at the location had sustained gunshot wounds to his face, forearm, and abdomen but survived.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing several gunshots and seeing a man fleeing the area.
An investigation was promptly launched by the Tulsa Police Department and the FBI. Officers canvassed the vicinity and located Daijon Marque Welch. They also discovered a semi-automatic black pistol that he had attempted to conceal. Welch, a 27-year-old from Tulsa and a member of the Muscogee Nation, was taken into custody.
According to court documents, Daijon Marque Welch pleaded guilty to intentionally shooting Cameron Wilson multiple times. He was charged with Second Degree Murder in Indian Country. Following his guilty plea, Welch was sentenced to 156 months of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime. The sentence brought a measure of justice to the family of Cameron Wilson, whose lives were irrevocably changed by the violent act.
