On a tragic day in August of 2021, the life of Rebecca Lynn Rannow, a 41-year-old Caucasian female from Racine, Wisconsin, was brought to a violent and premature end. Known affectionately as "Becky" to her friends and family, she was discovered in her home on Edgewood Avenue on Friday, August 13, after she failed to show up for her job as a beloved local bartender. The scene that awaited those who found her was one of horror; Becky had been shot multiple times, with later testimony revealing she sustained 17 bullet wounds. Her pitbull was found unharmed but locked in a room.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed authorities toward a suspect. Montreal Greer, a 39-year-old man who was an acquaintance of Rannow's then-boyfriend and had even lived with the couple for a time the previous winter, was identified as the person responsible. Evidence recovered from the scene, along with surveillance footage, linked Greer to the crime. Further investigation revealed that after killing Rannow, he had stolen her cell phone and a PlayStation console, which he later sold.
Montreal Greer was arrested and faced a series of charges, including first-degree intentional homicide, possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.
