On a Tuesday evening in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the life of a 40-year-old Black man named Sherman Solomon, also known as Sher Solomon, came to a tragic end. The events of September 13, 2022, unfolded near 33rd and Galena, where a ShotSpotter alert drew the attention of the Milwaukee Police Department's Tactical Enforcement Unit.
Upon their arrival at the scene, the officers were met with a hail of gunfire, with bullets striking their squad car. In the ensuing exchange, Solomon was shot.
He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two other individuals who were with Solomon at the time managed to escape and fled the scene.
Investigators recovered a handgun from the location, which was equipped with a high-capacity drum magazine. Following the incident, the three officers involved were placed on administrative duty, a standard procedure in such cases. The Wauwatosa Police Department, along with the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation, took the lead in the inquiry into the fatal shooting. To provide transparency, the Milwaukee Police Department later released bodycam footage of the incident to the public.
