On a summer evening in Tukwila, just south of Seattle, 18-year-old Bryan Dominguez-Navarro, a male of Hispanic ethnicity, was fatally shot on August 14, 2016. The incident unfolded in the parking lot of the La Rochelle Apartments during what was supposed to be a marijuana transaction. Dominguez-Navarro, accompanied by a 23-year-old friend, had arranged to sell a half-pound of marijuana to a man later identified as Treston D.

The meeting took a tragic turn when Baladez-Carrillo produced a pistol and opened fire. Dominguez-Navarro, who was in the passenger seat of a BMW sedan, was struck by the gunfire. The bullet passed through him and also hit his friend, who was in the driver's seat. After shooting Dominguez-Navarro, the assailant walked over to the driver who had fallen out of the car and shot him several more times. Witnesses who heard the gunshots quickly called 911. When police arrived, they found both men inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to save him, Dominguez-Navarro was pronounced dead at the scene. His friend survived after being shot multiple times in the stomach and legs and was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
The surviving victim immediately identified Treston D. Baladez-Carrillo as the shooter, an identification that was corroborated by several witnesses and surveillance footage from the apartment complex. People at the scene were able to pull up Baladez-Carrillo's Facebook profile, and the surviving victim confirmed his identity. Investigators found multiple 9mm casings around and inside the car. A review of the victims' Facebook messages confirmed the planned drug deal. Baladez-Carrillo was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $3 million. Court documents indicated that the shooting was premeditated, with the marijuana purchase being a guise for the violent encounter.
