In the early morning hours of January 9, 2022, the life of 37-year-old Arturo Barrios-Romero was cut short in Mount Vernon, Washington. A Hispanic/Latino male, he was at a gathering in an apartment on Stanford Drive when the fatal event unfolded. The get-together was an after-hours continuation of a night that began at a local drinking establishment.
Mount Vernon police and first responders were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. with a report of CPR in progress.
Upon their arrival, they discovered that Barrios-Romero had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Despite the resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of two suspects. Isaac Torres, 29, was charged with second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. Authorities believe that while the act was not premeditated, Torres intended to kill Barrios-Romero. The host of the gathering, 33-year-old Jose Rosales Garcia, was also arrested and charged with rendering criminal assistance and alien in possession of a firearm. Both men were taken into custody as the investigation continued.
