On the evening of March 17, 2025, a young Hispanic man named Alan Noel Mora Gomez, aged 18, was at a Chevron gas station in Mount Vernon, Washington, at the intersection of East College Way and North Laventure Road. Tragically, his life was cut short when he sustained a fatal gunshot wound. First responders arrived at the scene to find Gomez injured and administered first aid until medics could take over.
He was then rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for advanced medical care.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Alan Noel Mora Gomez succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Mount Vernon Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting, which they believed to be an isolated incident. Investigators began to piece together the events of that night, utilizing surveillance footage from the area to identify a vehicle suspected of being involved. The suspects had fled the scene before law enforcement's arrival.
The investigation led police to the city of Everett, where they located the suspect vehicle. As they continued to gather physical and forensic evidence, arrest warrants were issued for two individuals. On April 2, 2025, a coordinated operation involving the North Cascades Regional SWAT team, the Mount Vernon Police Tactical Operations Team, and the Skagit County Crisis Negotiations Team resulted in the arrest of two suspects in Oak Harbor.
The individuals taken into custody were a 21-year-old man, identified as Jose Lozano of Everett, and a 17-year-old male. Lozano was booked into the Skagit County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, with his bail set at $1 million. The juvenile suspect was taken to the Skagit County Juvenile Detention facility, also facing a charge of second-degree murder. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to follow leads.
