In the winter of 2017, the life of 19-year-old Hispanic/Latino male Jose L. Zapata was tragically cut short in Mount Vernon, Washington. On the evening of Sunday, December 17th, within the confines of a local business complex, Zapata sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The Skagit County Coroner's Office would later confirm the cause of death and officially rule the manner as a homicide, signaling the start of a comprehensive investigation into the violent end of a young life.
