In the early morning hours of September 10, 2016, the life of 23-year-old Eugene Brown Jr. was cut short in Augusta, Georgia. An African American male, Brown was discovered lifeless in the roadway on the 1900 block of Second Avenue. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene at 4:05 a.m., the cause of death being at least one gunshot wound. At the time of his death, Brown was a father to three boys with another child on the way and resided on the 2300 block of Franklin Street.
The investigation into his death revealed that shortly before he was killed, Brown had been at a house on Sullivan Street with several other people, including a man named Dakkar Taylor. An argument over marijuana reportedly escalated, during which Taylor allegedly threatened a woman with a gun. While Taylor faced weapons charges for this incident, authorities were unable to establish a direct link between him and Brown's murder.
Despite efforts by law enforcement, including the public release of Brown's photograph to gather information, no suspects have been officially named or arrested in connection with his killing. The case of Eugene Brown Jr.'s death remains unsolved, one of a number of homicides that occurred in the Richmond County area around that time, leaving his family and the community without answers or a sense of justice.
