On a summer evening in Renton, Washington, the life of 34-year-old Aaron Coe, a Black male, was cut short by gunfire. On July 9, 2022, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Williams Avenue South. Upon their arrival, they discovered Coe unconscious and bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the individuals responsible for Coe's death remained at
large, leaving a community searching for answers. The Renton Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation. A few days after the fatal shooting, detectives released images from security footage to the public, showing two men they believed were connected to the crime. The hope was that these images would generate leads and help identify those involved in the senseless act of violence.
The investigation pressed on, and within weeks, there was a significant breakthrough. In August 2022, the Renton Police Department announced the arrests of two suspects. Kendale S. Jimerson was apprehended by the Nevada State Patrol, while a Renton police special enforcement team took the second suspect, Devaughn C. Dorsey, into custody. Both men were subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Aaron Coe, bringing a measure of progress in the quest for justice for Coe and his loved ones.
