On the evening of April 24, 2025, a quiet townhouse community in Newcastle, Washington, became the scene of a heart-wrenching family tragedy. Inside a home in the 7000 block of 129th Street, law enforcement discovered the bodies of three individuals, including 14-year-old Dhruva Kikkeri. The young male, of Indian descent, was found to have died from a gunshot wound to the head, a death that the medical examiner would later rule a homicide.
Also found deceased at the scene were Dhruva's
parents. His mother, 44-year-old Shwetha Panyam, had also been fatally shot, with wounds to her head and torso. Her death was also classified as a homicide. The body of Dhruva's father, 44-year-old Harshavardhana Kikkeri, was found as well; his death was determined to be a suicide resulting from a self-inflicted handgun wound to the head. Evidence of the violent encounter was apparent to the arriving King County Sheriff's deputies, who observed blood on a window and discovered a bullet in the street.
The investigation into the devastating incident is ongoing. While authorities have not officially labeled the event a murder-suicide, the findings from the medical examiner's office strongly suggest this conclusion.
