In the early morning hours of January 25, 2024, 50-year-old Caucasian male Sergei Kubay was found dead in the parking lot of the Fairwood Pond Apartments near Renton, Washington. An Amazon delivery driver, he was discovered by authorities just before 5 a.m. after reports of a "man down." The King County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that he had died from gunshot wounds to the head and neck.
Investigators believe the shooting actually occurred the previous night while he was out delivering packages in his personal vehicle.
Authorities have indicated that they believe the shooting was a targeted attack, likely stemming from an altercation that occurred while he was on his delivery route. At the time of the initial reports, the King County Sheriff's Office had not identified any suspects and stated that the investigation was ongoing. No weapon was recovered at the scene. Detectives have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Originally from Ukraine, Kubay had moved to Washington with his family approximately 20 years prior. He was one of eleven siblings and was described by his family as a kind and open-hearted man. To support his wife, Anna, and their two young children, a ten-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter, he had taken on the evening delivery shifts for Amazon. His wife worked during the day, and he would care for the children until she returned, at which point he would begin his delivery route. His family has expressed their profound grief and shock at his sudden and violent death.
