Special Deputy Sheriff Ward Pentz, aged 25, tragically died on May 21, 1906, in Nicholasville, Kentucky. His death was the result of an accidental gunshot wound. On the day of the incident, Pentz was riding in a buggy when his revolver fell and discharged, striking him in the stomach. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, the injury proved fatal.
