In the spring of 1906, a young man named Ward Pentz, at the age of 25, had just begun a new chapter in his life in Jessamine County, Kentucky. On May 21st, he was serving in his role as a special deputy sheriff for the High Bridge area near Nicholasville. It was a position he had held for only a single day, a brief tenure that would be tragically cut short by a fatal accident.
