On the evening of January 1, 2020, at a home on Mackey Pike in Jessamine County, a heated argument between Derick and his mother, Molly Regina Johnson, escalated with fatal consequences. According to the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office, Johnson herself called 911 to report that she had shot her son. When deputies arrived at the residence, they found Davis with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead later that night.
