In the summer of 2014, the life of 20-year-old Bo Dustin Dewayne Otis, a male from Morehead, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On June 22, five men broke into his home in the small community of Clearfield with the intention of robbing him. During this home invasion, Otis was shot in the back of the head. He was rushed to the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington but succumbed to his injuries the following day, on June 23, 2014.
The investigation into his murder was a collaborative effort involving the Kentucky State Police, the Morehead Police Department, and the Rowan County Sheriff's Department. Their work led to the identification and arrest of five suspects. The man identified as the shooter was Anthony T. Paysen. His accomplices were named as Julius Kolowitz, Jaque Abrams, Demario Powell, and Marcus Stewart. All five were charged in connection with the robbery and murder that shook the community.
In the years that followed, the wheels of justice turned for Bo Otis. Anthony T. Paysen pleaded guilty to charges of murder, second-degree robbery, and second-degree burglary. In a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 43 years in prison in February 2024. His four co-defendants also entered guilty pleas for their roles in the crime and received sentences for their involvement, bringing a close to a case that left a lasting impact on the victim's family and the community of Morehead.
