In the early hours of a Monday morning in Morehead, Kentucky, a confrontation at a residence on Leaning Tree Lane turned deadly. Kenneth A. Fulton, a 42-year-old White male, was shot and killed on April 10, 2017. The incident began when Randy Parmley, a 43-year-old from Ashland, Kentucky, arrived at Fulton's home. Parmley was there to confront his wife, who was present at the residence. An altercation broke out between the two men, during which Parmley shot Fulton twice. Parmley later claimed that he felt his life was in imminent danger during the confrontation.
Following the shooting, in an unusual turn of events, Parmley drove to the Kentucky State Police post and turned himself in to the authorities. He admitted to the shooting, explaining that he had gone to the house to confront his wife. Based on his confession and the circumstances of the event, Parmley was arrested and charged with murder. He was subsequently booked into the Rowan County Detention Center.
In October 2019, the case against Randy Parmley went to trial. The defense argued that Parmley had acted in self-defense. After deliberating for less than four hours, a Rowan County jury acquitted Parmley of all charges, including wanton endangerment. Despite his acquittal, Parmley expressed remorse for the events that led to Fulton's death.
