In the quiet community of Morehead, Kentucky, a welfare check on a Sunday afternoon escalated into a tragic event that claimed the lives of three people, including 71-year-old Anna Morrison. When deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff's Office arrived at the rural home, they were met with a barricaded man who opened fire, wounding one of the officers.
The man inside the home was later identified as 51-year-old Garry Morrison, Anna's son.
After firing at the deputies, the house became engulfed in flames. Once the authorities were able to enter the residence, they discovered three bodies inside.
The investigation revealed a grim sequence of events. The Rowan County Coroner determined that Anna Morrison and Garry's 32-year-old girlfriend, Latoya Cooper, had both died from gunshot wounds. Garry Morrison was found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities believe he killed his mother and his girlfriend before taking his own life. The incident began after the suspect himself had called 911 to report that he had shot his girlfriend.
