In the summer of 2016, the life of 29-year-old Brandon Douglas Hansford was cut short in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving a family searching for answers that have yet to come. On the night of July 18th, Hansford, a father and an assistant manager at AutoZone, was driving near his home in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. He had just dropped off a friend and was stopped at the intersection of Graston Avenue and Upper Hunters Trace when he was ambushed.
An unknown assailant approached his vehicle and fired multiple shots, striking him five times through the window. The car then accelerated across traffic and crashed into a nearby house. When police arrived, they initially believed they were responding to a simple car accident, only to discover Hansford deceased inside his vehicle from the gunshot wounds.
In the weeks leading up to his death, Hansford had been living in a state of fear. Less than a month before he was killed, he had sought legal protection by filing an emergency protective order against a man he claimed was stalking and had physically assaulted him. This individual was identified as the ex-boyfriend of one of Hansford's co-workers. In the protective order, Hansford expressed grave concern for his own safety and that of his child. Years have passed since the fatal shooting, and his case has grown cold with no arrests made and no suspects publicly named. His family has been left to grapple with the profound loss and the frustration of an investigation that has yielded no justice. Vigils have been held in his memory, with loved ones pleading for anyone with information to come forward, hoping that a crucial tip might finally lead to an arrest and provide some measure of closure.
