In the autumn of 2016, a single act of violence abruptly ended the life of David G. House, a 58-year-old man. The fatal encounter unfolded on the evening of October 10th in the parking lot of a convenience store on Blevins Gap Road in Louisville, Kentucky. House was discovered inside a vehicle, having sustained a gunshot wound. Emergency services were called to the scene around 10 p.m., and he was quickly transported to University Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly before 11 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to review surveillance footage from the convenience store. An employee reported that the video captured the shooter getting into another car and driving away after the incident, and noted that there did not appear to be a physical altercation prior to the shooting. This evidence proved crucial in the subsequent investigation. The community was left shaken by the event, which marked the city's 90th homicide of the year.
Within a few days, the Louisville Metro Police Department made an arrest in connection with House's death. A 20-year-old man named Brandon Kraatz was taken into custody and charged with murder. According to his arrest report, Kraatz waived his Miranda rights and confessed to the shooting on videotape. Following his arrest, he was booked into Metro Corrections to await further legal proceedings.
