In the late afternoon of May 22, 2017, a dispute between two groups of people in a parking lot on South Broadway in Lexington, Kentucky, escalated into a burst of gunfire. When the chaos subsided, 19-year-old Justin Lee Jenkins was found with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died at 4:23 p.m. Another 20-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting and was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle.
