In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky, the quiet outside the Northside Branch of the Lexington Public Library was shattered by deadly violence. Seventy-one-year-old Ashim Heanacho, a male resident of the city, was killed in the incident. The tragic events unfolded around 3:20 a.m., leaving another man, 52-year-old Edward Parker, also deceased from gunshot wounds.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene on Russell Cave Road.
Responding to reports of a shooting, Lexington police discovered the two victims. Their investigation quickly led to an arrest. Sixty-nine-year-old Deborah Weiss was taken into custody at the scene and charged with two counts of murder. According to her arrest citation, Weiss admitted to the shooting. Surveillance footage from the library reportedly captured the brutal attack, showing Weiss first striking the sleeping Parker with a sledgehammer before shooting him. She then allegedly approached Heanacho, who was asleep in his car, broke the back window with the sledgehammer, and shot him three times.
Following the attacks, Weiss herself called 911 and confessed, telling the dispatcher, 'I just killed two men.' When officers arrived, they found her sitting down, and she again admitted to the killings. During a preliminary hearing, it was revealed that Weiss had previous confrontations with both victims related to her son. Weiss, who has been described as homeless, was being held on a $1 million bond, which was later reduced to $750,000. She has pleaded not guilty, and her case was sent to a grand jury.
