In the late spring of 2017, the life of Douglas L. Spencer, a 31-year-old Black man from Louisville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On May 29, 2017, Spencer, who was also known by the nickname 'Fresh,' was fatally shot in what would become an unsolved homicide case. The incident that led to his death unfolded in the early hours of the morning in Louisville's Russell neighborhood, where he was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite being rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, Spencer succumbed to his injuries. Another report specifies the shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Isaac Alley in the Parkland neighborhood. He died at the hospital about an hour later.
Douglas was a father to his daughter, Ja'Cobi Coleman, and a son to Sheila and Douglas Spencer Sr. He is also survived by his sister, LaKesha Allen. His death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who remembered him at a memorial service held at Community Baptist Church.
In the wake of the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into Spencer's death.
