On a Saturday evening in Bardwell, Kentucky, the life of 52-year-old Kelly D. Clanahan, a white female, was tragically cut short. On August 11, 2018, Clanahan was fatally shot inside a residence approximately three and a half miles north of the town. Another individual, 42-year-old Harold Doug Compton of Grand Rivers, Kentucky, was also shot and critically injured during the same incident.
Compton was airlifted to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, where his condition was eventually stabilized.
The shooting occurred at the home of Matthew K. Turnbow, who was 30 years old at the time. Preliminary investigations by the Kentucky State Police indicated that an altercation took place inside Turnbow's residence, which culminated in him firing a shotgun. The shotgun blast struck both Clanahan and Compton. An autopsy later confirmed that Kelly D. Clanahan died from a gunshot wound.
In the aftermath of the deadly shooting, Matthew K. Turnbow was arrested. He was initially charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he was served with an outstanding arrest warrant for the violation of a Kentucky Emergency Protective Order/Domestic Violence Order. Turnbow was taken into custody and lodged in the Ballard County Jail. The investigation into the shooting was led by a Kentucky State Police detective, with the case expected to be presented to a Grand Jury following the conclusion of the investigation.
