In the early morning hours of December 7, 2019, a tragedy unfolded in the Klondike neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, that would end the life of 20-year-old Jacob Kerr. Kerr was at a residence on Mid Dale Lane when a man named Lucius Adams, who was 22 at the time, arrived at the home. Adams was the ex-boyfriend of the woman with whom Kerr was living.
Shortly after 1 a.m., Adams shot Kerr once in the shoulder and chest area.
Following the shooting, Adams did not render aid or call for help. Instead, he took the time to clean up the shell casing and remove the gun from the premises before fleeing the scene. Kerr was found gravely wounded and transported to University Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 1:50 a.m.
The Louisville Metro Police Department immediately began an investigation into the homicide. Initially, there were no publicly named suspects. However, within a week, their investigation led them to Lucius Adams. He was arrested on December 14, 2019, and faced multiple serious charges, including murder, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Adams was subsequently booked at Metro Corrections and held without bond. In January 2023, a Louisville man was sentenced to 13 years in prison in connection with the deadly shooting.
