On a late Tuesday night in June of 2024, the life of 20-year-old Jibril Tariq Liles, an African American male, was tragically cut short in the Shively neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Just before midnight on June 4th, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 3100 block of Clinton Place. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jibril suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Originally from Gary, Indiana, Jibril was residing in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the time of his passing and was a dedicated employee at a local Kroger grocery store. Those who knew him remembered a kind and humble young man who found joy in playing video games and cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. His sudden death left a void in the lives of his loved ones, who recalled his peaceful and warm nature.
The investigation into Jibril's death continued for several months. In October 2024, the Shively Police Department announced a significant development in the case with the arrest of two individuals. Both suspects were juveniles at the time of the incident and were subsequently charged with complicity in the murder of Jibril Tariq Liles. Due to their status as minors, their identities were not publicly disclosed.
