In the spring of 2020, the life of 17-year-old Solomon Henderson was cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. On the afternoon of March 7, the young man was found with fatal gunshot wounds in the Shawnee neighborhood, specifically in an alley in the 4000 block of West Broadway. First responders were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m., where Henderson was pronounced dead.
Investigators with the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit quickly determined that the shooting had not
occurred where Solomon's body was discovered, launching a search for the primary crime scene. The investigation into his death was immediately active and ongoing as authorities sought to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed Solomon Henderson's identity and the cause of death as gunshot wounds.
In the months following the tragedy, more details emerged about the circumstances surrounding Solomon's death. His mother, Contessa Griffey, revealed that the person responsible for her son's death was another juvenile. She explained that Solomon had previously shared a room with the alleged shooter at the Jefferson County Youth Detention Center. According to Griffey, her son had posted a photo on Instagram with a large sum of cash, which she believes motivated the other teen to shoot him. The family's grief was compounded by the fact that they were not able to be with Solomon in his final moments at the hospital.
