On New Year's Day of 2023, the life of 24-year-old Dorion Tisby was tragically cut short in a shooting that occurred in Louisville's Shelby Park neighborhood. Tisby was discovered with gunshot wounds on East Oak Street shortly before midnight. He was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m.
on January 2nd.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. In the initial stages, they had no suspects and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. The case saw a significant development when, a few minutes after the shooting, a 19-year-old named Lloyd Mason, driving a black Acura TL, crashed into a police cruiser. Mason then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.
During the investigation of the car crash, police discovered several firearms inside the stolen vehicle Mason had been driving. Ballistic evidence from the shell casings found at the scene of Tisby's shooting matched the firearms recovered from the car. This crucial link led to Mason being charged with the murder of Dorion Tisby on February 8th. At the time of the crash, Mason was initially arrested on several other charges, including wanton endangerment and fleeing from police, and had been released from jail on his own recognizance on January 3rd.
Following the murder charge, Lloyd Mason was taken back into custody and booked into Louisville Metro Corrections. During his court appearance, a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and the judge set his bond at $150,000. Authorities have mentioned that Mason may have had an unidentified accomplice at the time of the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. They continue to ask anyone with additional information to come forward.
