In the early morning hours of April 3, 2021, a dispute in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, turned fatal, claiming the life of 33-year-old Anthony Johnson. The male victim was discovered unresponsive in front of a residence on College Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck. Emergency services were called to the scene just before 1 a.m., and Johnson was quickly transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
When police arrived at the College
Street home, they found 25-year-old Kachelle Isbell at the scene. Isbell was discovered with a. 38 caliber pistol in her possession. According to reports, she admitted to the shooting, though she maintained that it was an accident. The disagreement that led to the fatal encounter allegedly began as a heated conversation around a fire pit. The discussion escalated when Johnson mentioned he would be allowing a woman with cancer to live in his home. Isbell claimed that Johnson had approached her and made physical contact before the shooting occurred.
Following the incident, Kachelle Isbell was arrested and charged with murder. Her case proceeded through the Christian County court system, where her bond was initially set at $100,000. In July 2022, Isbell entered a guilty plea to an amended charge of second-degree manslaughter. However, this plea was later revised, and in August 2022, she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of reckless homicide. The plea agreement came with a recommended five-year sentence.
