In the early afternoon of a Saturday in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, a violent encounter cut short the life of 24-year-old Tarone Kiaire Williams. On October 15, 2016, Williams was in the parking lot of the Marathon service station located at the corner of East 9th Street and Campbell Street when he was shot by a suspect. Despite his injuries, Williams managed to get into his vehicle and drive away from the scene, heading westbound on East 9th Street.
His attempt to flee was tragically brief.
About a block from the gas station, Williams's vehicle collided with another car. When Hopkinsville police officers arrived at the crash site, they found him unresponsive. The Christian County Deputy Coroner pronounced Tarone Kiaire Williams dead at the scene, his life ending not just from the gunshot wound but also from the subsequent crash. The initial investigation began with an unknown suspect as law enforcement reached out to the public for any information regarding the shooting.
The search for the person responsible for Williams's death quickly focused on a single suspect. The day after the fatal shooting, authorities located and arrested 22-year-old Dorien E. Meullion in Clarksville, Tennessee. The arrest was made at a residence on Polly Drive by a combined force of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Drug and Violent Crime Strike Force, the Hopkinsville Police Department, and the Clarksville Police Department. Meullion was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Tarone Williams and was held in the Montgomery County Jail to await extradition back to Kentucky to face charges.
